Computer users access the hard disk by clicking on the Computer icon in the desktop. The system allocates different icons for programs and folders for distinguishing them from other programs. Sometimes, due to some file corruptions or issues due to malware or virus attacks, you will need to reset the icons. - Open the Start menu by clicking on the Start button present at the left bottom corner of your desktop.
- Now click on the Control Panel option located at the right side pane of the Start menu to open the Control Panel window.
- When the window opens, look for the Appearance and Personalization tab and click on it. In the window that appears, choose the option named Personalization for viewing the Icon characteristics in your system.
- Now click on the option named Change Desktop Icons found at the left pane of the window to open a dialog box.
- Now look for the Computer icon and put a check mark in the check box found beside the icon.
- Now exit from the window by clicking on the OK button and close all the open windows.
- Open the Start menu by clicking on its icon located at the left corner of the taskbar and then look for the option named Control panel in the right side pane and click on it.
- When the Control Panel window opens, browse for the option named Appearances and Personalization and click on it. Now choose the Taskbar and Start Menu option found in the window to open a new dialog box.
- Click on the Start menu tab to view the options for personalizing it and click on the Customize button for opening the dialog box named Customize Start Menu.
- Now look for the option named Display as a link or Display as a menu found under the Computer option and click on the radio button found next to it.
- Now click on the OK button for saving all the changes. Exit from all the windows by closing them.
