Using Task manager – How to Check RAM usage?


Computers have become a necessary tool in our day to day life. Shopping of groceries to high electronic equipments, writing a diary or journal, searching for a new date, chatting with your friends, etc. are now done through computers very frequently by a very large sum of people. Even smart phones can do almost all the above said things. Still, computers can never be replaced.
Computer technology has evolved a lot from the early days. The first electronic computer, ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) occupied a big room with all the vacuum tubes and transistors where as the new age Ultra books, a lot powerful than the ENIAC, size as small as a notebook. The specs of the computers used in the current days are very high and they are able to do billions of calculations per second. RAM or Random Access Memory is a temporary storage device that has high data transfer speeds. Even though it holds the name Random Access, the current RAM’s use burst technology rather than the Random Access method for blazing speeds.
Microsoft has provided the Task manager option in their Windows platforms to monitor the system activities. The task manager can monitor Network activity, System processes, Running Applications, RAM usage, Processor usage and many other stats. Task Manager helps a user in identifying unwanted memory usage and many other characteristics. Tech support professionals use the task manager for a lot of purposes. Instructions

1. Power ON your Computer and boot to Windows. After the Windows Desktop is loaded, press Ctrl + Alt + Del together and click on the Task Manager button or Right click on the Windows Taskbar and then click on the Task Manager option in the drop list.
2. The Task Manager will be default in Applications Tab. For processes or Networking monitoring, other tabs are given there. Click on the Performance Tab to check the System resources usage.
3. There will be 5 charts given there with moving lines that show different parameters. The chart with the name PF Usage or Memory Usage shows the RAM usage. RAM usage depends upon the platform and the applications used.
4. Other details about memory like Physical Memory, Kernel Memory and Commit charge are given there.
